MEET PROFESSOR COOK
De’rrell Cook, one of our new Fifth Graders, is recognized by his teacher, Mrs. Pearson, as an outstanding math student. De’rrell recently had a special opportunity to show off his skills.
Mrs. Pearson also teaches a Math Education Methods Class on Saturday mornings at Harris Stowe State University in St. Louis. On one Saturday in September, Mrs. Pearson invited De’rrell to attend her class to help teach.
On the specified date, De’rrell dressed in a shirt and tie, and his family accompanied him to class. While there, he demonstrated some of his special math talents on the chalkboard, helping Mrs. Pearson to get her students to learn.
We are very proud of De’rrell and we thank Mrs. Pearson for making this opportunity possible for her student. Now, De’rrell wants to be called “Professor Cook!”
SPECIAL LEARNING TEAMS
This year, we have two special learning opportunities for our students.
The Sylvan Learning Center is providing after-school tutoring for twelve of our students who need extra help. They meet for an hour, three times per week. Three Sylvan teachers are on-site each day, and we are already seeing positive results.
We also have invited our top students to participate in our Explorers Advanced Learning Group. These students meet with Mr. Miller for one special project each quarter. Our current project involves conducting a mock Presidential Election for our student body.
These special opportunities help our students develop into the special children God has created them to be. It’s great to see them grow!
PRAYER REQUESTS
- For Unity Lutheran Church as they reach out to the school community.
- For guidance and direction for the Unity Working Group as they search for more classroom space.
- For our Annual Fund Drive, that God would move Christian people to generously support our Belong To Jesus Scholarship Fund.
ANNUAL FUND PHONATHON
Our Annual Fund mailing was sent out recently. Hopefully you have received yours and plan to make a donation soon. Our Annual Fund goal this year is $250,000. We will need a miracle of God to reach that amount. Don’t you want to be a part of that miracle?
We also need callers for our annual Phonathon, which will be held at the District office on November 12 and 13, at 6:00pm. We provide dinner and training, and then we make calls for about 1-1/2 hours.
If you can help, please call the school office 618 874 6605. We could use your help!
